In order to enrich the life of international students in Shanghai Institute of Technology and deepen their understanding and recognition of Chinese culture, Faculty of Computer Science held a “Fall in Love with Chinese culture” Workshop for international students on the 15th of June.

First, Chinese students introduced culture, customs and traditions in China from a historic and a modern perspective.?The enormous size and power of China has been an influence in the world for millennia, and today China is once again rising.?International students are encouraged to explore further afield during their student exchange in china, especially shanghai. Shanghai is one of the major economic centers of modern China as well as an excellent connection to the rest of the country.

Then all participants had a small talk about their understanding of Chinese Paper cut?or?Jianzhi. As China’s most popular folk-arts, Chinese Paper cut?originated from the 6th century, various paper objects and figures used to be buried with the dead or burned at the funeral ceremony. Traditional paper cuttings are also called “Window blossoms” because they were first put on windows for decoration. Other forms of paper cutting are derived from the “window blossoms”.

In the end, international students expressed their deep feelings and experiences either about Chinese Paper cutting or other Chinese intangible cultural heritage. They are familiar with the implied meaning of paper-cutting works, such as the ox, fish or the Chinese character “福”. It is their ardent love of Chinese traditional intangible culture that makes their works so special and meaningful.
