The safety and protection of every member of international students is a major priority for all of us. In the Faculty of Information Technology, tutors and Chinese students work together to help international students become more aware of important issues as they relate to security measures, both on and off-campus. The Campus Safety Workshop is held every two months to generate a healthy dialogue that will communicate safety concern as well as school expectations. Specific tasks of each workshop include:

  1. Urge international students to be aware of his/her surroundings.

  2. Remind international students not to venture out alone off-campus at night in un-lit areas.

  3. Discuss with international students how alcohol/drug use can compromise an individual’s ability to make good judgments.

  4. Urge international students to minimize the use of a cell phone while walking off-campus.

  5. Remind international students that the Student Safety Escort Service is available on campus.

  6. Talk to international students about what measures they can take to help keep residence halls safe

  7. Encourage international students to pay attention to risk factors related to campus fires in order to keep themselves and those around them safe.
